WHO is Holy Spirit ?

1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

“When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. Came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.”

1. Holy Spirit carries power.

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The bible says Jesus went around to heal the sick, performed miracles and casted out demon with the power of the Holy Spirit. Even our Master, Jesus needs to have the power of the Holy Spirit in His earthly ministry, how more needy are we? In Acts 2, Peter, a fisherman was able to speak to thousands on the day of Pentecost and three thousands were saved that day. Who gave the power and wisdom to an uneducated fisherman to preach and to challenge people to give their lives to God? It is the Holy Spirit.

2. Holy Spirit is a person.

John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

Jesus says the Holy Spirit is a “He” not a “it”. He is a person, not a force or tool. God sent Jesus to be our first Helper- by being our Savior to redeem us from sin. Now He is going to send another Person, who is totally like Jesus, to be our Helper. Here shows that Holy Spirit is a living Person. Many cult or new age groups teach that the Holy Spirit as a force/non living thing.

3. Holy Spirit has a presence

When Holy Spirit is around we can feel His presence. We are busy with our lives everyday, rushing to work, to complete assignments; we are tired and feeling dry, but when we step into the presence of the Holy Spirit, we can feel the peace, comfort and confidence in His presence. Sometimes the presence of the Holy Spirit is overwhelming, people will cry, laugh, scream or fall under the power of the Holy Spirit. His presence will touch our heart, comfort or minister to us. We can feel and sense His presence.

Today churches need the presence and the power of Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit there is no power in our ministry, cell group, or any event that we plan. Without the Holy Spirit, all the preaching will be just information but no transformation. God gave us the Holy Spirit to anoint us to preach the gospel to the end of the world. We need to treasure Him as a person by spending time to communicate with Him, listen to His advice and enjoying His presence. We need to hunger for Him more and more each day.
